With warmer weather just around the corner, your next vacation may be rapidly approaching! Whether it’s a weekend trip a few hours away or several weeks traveling abroad, you don’t want your aligners to ruin your time. Or, worse, your time away to cause you to fall off-track with your treatment plan. Fortunately, learning some helpful tips for traveling with Invisalign is as easy as reading on.

Tip #1: Double-Check That You’ve Packed the Essentials

Between putting together outfits and planning your itinerary, there’s a lot to do before you leave town. As a result, you may accidentally leave one or more of your oral hygiene products behind. Unfortunately, this can increase your risk of developing a cavity or two on vacation. Plus, without the right tools, your aligners can become yellow. So, always make sure to double-check that you have your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash before you go!

Tip #2: Check That the Tap Water Is Safe Before You Leave

In addition to keeping you hydrated, clean water is essential in your dental care regimen. That’s why it’s so important that you double-check that it’s safe before you arrive at your destination. If it’s not, don’t worry – you can use bottled water to clean your teeth and aligners.

Tip #3: Stick to Your Routine

Whether you’re planning on catching up on some much-needed R&R or you want to spend the whole day sightseeing and adventuring, it’s important not to deviate too much from your normal routine. For example, you should still brush each morning and evening and floss daily – no exceptions. It’s also important to continue switching your aligners on the right day, so don’t forget to pack any additional aligners you need in your luggage!

Tip #4: Keep Sugar-Free Gum On Hand

After each meal, you should brush and floss before putting your aligners back in. This will avoid food particles from sitting on your teeth for hours on end, potentially increasing your chances of developing tooth decay. However, if completing your oral hygiene regimen simply isn’t feasible, try chewing on a stick of sugar-free gum. This will stimulate saliva flow and rinse away debris that would’ve otherwise clung to your teeth.

Since Invisalign is relatively hassle-free, you can enjoy your vacation to the absolute fullest. Just keep these tips in mind to stay on-track with your treatment plan while you travel!
